Satyajit Ray, if i can say, had all the right beginnings which lead to the development of that stature he is associated with. His grandfather started Sandesh and was close to the Tagores. His father also was a writer, and it was due to his effort that Sandesh became popular. And Ray himself went to Shantiniketan to learn the Arts.

I've read Satyajit Ray, but have not seen any of his films. Recently, i watched this interview on him conducted by Shyam Benegal. Ray is mighty impressive. What struck me the most was his voice so as to say and perhaps the absoluteness of pronounciation. Awesome!!

He was practically into everything that made a film. He actually sketched illustrations with a particular scene in mind regarding the positioning of the actors and other objects.
