Cable television was a prohibited thing during my school years. Quite ironically, my father allowed it a week before my Second PUC Examinations. We had bought a new television around that time. It was a surprise. We had strict rules at home not to watch TV for long hours. We simply had no option but Doordarshan. Except for Chitrahaar on Wednesdays, Rangoli on Sunday mornings and a film on Sunday evenings (if it was a nice one).

I don't know whether to term that a good habit or not. But due to which we had time for other hobbies and pastime.

These days, my mind reminds me to watch a good film on TV once in a while. And some sitcoms if i have the time.
