Life poses many false instants....the one which occupies......the No. 1...according to me are the external appearances to which man is an easy prey....despite having been not to fall into the trap......time and again.
Here are some of my instants......be it, amusing, entertaining, embaressing, or a learning experience.....
As usual...travelling in a BMTC bus, heading towards Race Course Road....for my Arts class.....the bus was crowded. Crowded with the people or the fragnances of various flowers....jaji...mallige.....chandu huvu....kanakambri.....posing to be a riot of colours to my tired eyes. It was about 3:45...when the flower-mongers travel from market to their respective abodes. On the way, they weave garlands...... with a mixture of betel leaves, lime and arecanuts, painting their tongues red. Talking incessantly......dark skinned, an effect of the burning sun....red bindis in the middle of their foreheads....make space for me to seat myself...rather uncomfortably.
I normally avoid sitting next to them......regarding the dirtiness of their saree.....their feets...caked with dust....on the other hand....i sat down as an elderly lady made space for me. I sat waiting for my stop....it being pretty near....does not usually take more than teh minutes....fifteen on the max. Dressed in my faded blue jeans...and a T-shirt...she gave me smile......and started talking. She had alreday done about two molas' of fresh mallige....the beautiful smell emanating from it was heavenly. She asked me if i would like to buy a mola or two...to which i politely declined.....the next moment....she substantiates my refusal by stating that i would not like to wear them in my hair. I was indeed surprised by her saying so.......thinking that these moffusil people too have gripped the essentiailties if globalisation.
The department of chemistry, MCC.
As usual.....almost the whole of the aforesaid dept. knows me. Sometimes I do wonder.....why is that all the teachers have to know me....irrespective of where I go!!!!
Figuring out the radicals.......or trying to with the salt mixture that I had got was proving to be difficult. It was one of those initial days. I was pretty successful.....one could say.....Shanti comes up....starts talking to me....I proceed with my job. Sudha sits down....they both get into small talk. And the subject is me....as I realise after a few moments. It can be irritating to hear 2 lecturers speak about you under your nose.....and i did listen. Thankfully....only good stuff was exchanged about me...like how attentive I am in class.....and so on. I was later whooping with joy....obviously silently though i would have liked to scream and shout. Straight away...I began to love the chemistry dept.. According to me, it is the only sane dept. in college.

Mrs. Rozario
Mrs. Rozario was our English teacher in Std. 9.
She is fair...pink in the face....short..pretty and petite one could say. She taught Shakespeare beautifully...each class was so much fun. To top it.....she knew Greek mythology...like the back of her hand.....even though the names are very confusing.
Her sarees were fabulous.....we used to marvel over each one, almost ith the eyeballs bulging out of it's socket....in stark contrast to Mrs. Frandson (Frandy dear who always wore purple....obviously to represent Fisher!!!)
Always lost......engrossing our in Greek tales...talking about the double headed Janus......Julius Ceaser.....and she ventured to show us her gold chain....on which was embossed with the face of an angel.
We had to sing a song for the christmas day progarmme.......borrowing a yellow saree from her was fun....Sherin also did do that. Her smile always was heart-warming making.
The comments of appreciation that she passed.....were warm.....she also told me that my lunch-bag was nice though some of my friends ridiculed it. I remember telling that she said so to evereybody untill they were tired of it!!!!
A special moment to be cherished.......it was her birthday.....we wanted to wish her and all that.....i do not remember the day or the date......we had English with Mrs. Vincent in the first period. We went upto her....with her permission decided to go call Mrs. Rozario to our class. I had to do that job.....I went to the respective class with the pretext that the former wanted to see the latter ....called her....ran back to my class. Realising that the ruse hadn't worked. I called her again. This time I made sure that she came with me. As soon as I entered class...we burst into a loud 'Happy Birthday' song. The noise pulled the other teachers from their classrooms too!!
Turning into a deep pink.......with a grin like that of a cheshire cat (with Subhashree's permission)...was she caught by surprise. I guess we had given her a wonderful birthday present...one that would bring joy to our hearts. At the end of it........was laughter and happiness.
The graduation day was beautiful....the night lit with hundreds of lamps......decorated by pots painted by us. It was indeed a sad day.....she was there....wishing us a success for all our lives to come.

My Likes and Dislikes...
Well, of lately I wanted to list out my favourite thing s and my not-so favourite things.....
There goes it....
1) To read Satyajit Ray A DOZEN TIMES....though i've read his works more than twice...was amongst the first of the indian writers whom i liked a lot....
2) To read Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's 'A Poison Tree' again.....for it's detailed description....though it begins with an analog of 'Yayati'
3) And all of Sarat Chandra Chatterjee's works...and among them......'Those Days'.......as many times as possible....i got to know about the early 19th century bengali brahmins...and their tedious lifestyles....and the harms associated with it....was very disturbing....
4) To see the movie 'Rudaali'....'Saalam Bombay'....'Gangajal'...'Apparijito'....'Monsoon Wedding'...... A G.V.Iyer's movie(sanskrit)......don't know the movie's name........and an Assamese movie...once again....am unaware of the movie's name.....i've read almost all the original novels......and was highly impressed.
5) Coming to Kannada......'Athithi' tops the list....followed my 'Munnudi' and 'Mussanje'.......'Dweepa' and 'Thayee Saheba'........ matte 'Beru'........still cannot get over 'Athithi' ....it's gripping
6) Kannada writers': Poorna Chandra Tejasvi's....read it in school ....was fun and enjoyable..... U.R Ananthamurthy's....'The Chariot Of The Sun'....too good...imparts the local life at the right flavour......'Samskara'......'Ghattashraddha'....which opened my eyes to the aristocratical Shivmogga brahmins....
7) To read Ruskin Bond's ' The Blue Umbrella'....the characterization of the garhwals...the protagonist 'Sita'...and the description......of nature is just beautiful....it keeps me going back again and again....must have read it 'n' times.....applies to all his novels......
8) Coming to the short stories...the most enjoyable ones are.......'Lajwanti'.......'Akku'.........'The Temple And The Mosque'.....'The Shroud'.........'Arjun'......many more...i cannot remember the names.
9) About music......'Badal' from Yuva is scintillating......Geeta's tracks.......some of Rajkumar's songs.......'Rang Deeni' from 'Dev'.......almost all of 'Water'......'Rudaali's music.....very sensitive.....especially 'Ganga'.......Kay Kay's tracks....
Dislikes....
1) Anybody who lectures on the dos' and the don'ts' of life.......especially....since i am a female...mouna....talk softly like a decent kid....don't poke your nose into adult stuff (do they think i'm a kid....for heaven's sake i'm 20)
2)The mindless movies, both in hindi and other languages........and even more those who fantasize it.
3) Tamil ones for their utter nonsensical portrayal of stuff...and the music and the dance(yuck) associated.
4) All 'K' soaps.....and the heavily made up women.......i wonder how they carry the heavy sarees...and the makeup...and they always seem to cry.......any amount of pitiness is insufficient...
5) Worse...the same technology is applied to kannada tv......these days...the special effects are so jarring...i tend to get a headache seeing the flashy.......colours...eye-catching rotations...and revolutions.......must have learnt a lot from the celestial bodies and their behaviour......
6) Tada......the sound effects....even the animals would flee the spot......bang...dishuummm.....tada....tada....tada....clashhhhh (i'm re-creating the musical notes)....no offences meant...
7) The premonitions....the people possess...and that too... with an all-time high......if one does not take a head-bath on saturday...it's inauspicious......no puja on a monday...be ready to face the lord's wrath....... the examples keep rolling.
8) When i'm not allowed to do things as i wish to do so....i'm very adament though these days...i'm not so......missing my unruly tactics....
9) The mosquitoes...they flourish on my blood...not only will they get their fill but the itch does not lessen for a week....very irritating....
10) Not to forget my glasses....(not that i'm an expert at that)....forgotten only once....but suffered.....proud of it....
used to prance about wearing them though it was not essential...now it is so....
Period.
