Lately...i've been listening to radio... especially the fm channels. After having... ruled the roost for a few years...Radio City is still going strong. Apart form that... a couple of other stations are on. One of them proclaims... something... which is stupid. The tagline... of that particular channel... being sakkath hot maga.
Initially.... it left me surprised.... as posters carrying this phrase... were put over... all over town. I realised, later that these words tried to brand the station.... attracting(?) the local crowd. The same channel... if i'm right is a couple of years old... and the tagline still holds good.
Radio jockeys working for this organisation have to mention these words every time... irrespective of whether... the show is about to start... or is to end. Sakkath hot maga, literally in Kannada... means.... 'very hot dude'.... what is it supposed to mean.. or rather what is it, that's to be comprehended. Are they trying to impress Bangalore... by mouthing these words... at the drop of a pin. And...we know that the city is brimming with non-Kannada people. With Kannada being the city's tongue.... it's in the process of being forgotten....
A friend... stated that the tagline... truly signifies.... the heat which is plaguing the town.

Interesting post. I have not had the chance to listen to any of the radio stations in Bangalore but I did see a few posters when I was there with this tag line. Personally I feel in the attempt to 'sound cool' they are killing the essence of Kannada completely. If you break down the words 'sakkath' (which is a slang), 'hot' (which is English) and maga (which has no context) - you realize there is nothing 'cool' about it except a pretentious attempt to try and capture the mind of Kannadigas.
I dont see the 'hot' part of this 'cool' tagline.

shakri.... i guess this reflects the slang which is so commonly used in b'lore..... a mix of kannada... and other languages.... it sounds so bad...
