My parents returned from Gujarat last week after spending two weeks there. And the stories i heard apart from the descriptions of the various places they visited weren't pleasant, some of them pathetic even. I'm not trying to put the region down or anything of the sort, but it's not what it proclaims to be: shining. Poverty stands in your face, the poor remain poor, chaiwallahs parcel tea in plastic bags, artifacts are sold at low prices. Having traveled to popular destinations in the country, i've never come across this. Tea in plastic bags in Ahmedabad! Is it so bad?! And i thought Kolkata was sufficient for me.
And father told me something, a person from Karnataka would rather die than live in such conditions (Not that Karnataka is good, the present polity is pathetic). If Gujarat is indeed developing, has a high growth rate and blah, blah, blah; what is the use of it all, if it does not reach the needy?
