I've never experienced much of that class differentiation that exists in India. But i know it exists, father has experienced it much more than i. It still is prevalent in hinterland rural India, various incidents remind us of it time and again.
I've read about it, but when i saw Damul, it impacted me. It's brutal, the lives of the 'lower castes', the way they are treated. And the upper castes, how inhuman can (/could) they get? The reasons they give for some of their decisions, God, it's so damning. How can they even think of it! For a 'lower caste', it's better to die than to live a life of wretchedness.
I don't want to use expletives here. Hope the situation across the country has alleviated.
